The Washington Post

Since 2021, I've overseen coverage of more than 300 high schools for one of the nation's largest publications. Selected to hold the boys' lacrosse, wrestling and field hockey beats, I've pitched and reported feature stories every week while covering games and meets in the talent-rich Washington, D.C., area. Here's a sample of the more than 50 stories I've written for The Post.

Zemen Sium breaks through for Washington Latin wrestling; Gonzaga cruises to DCSAA team title

Eight D.C. public schools — Anacostia, Ballou, Bell, Cardozo, Dunbar, H.D. Woodson, Roosevelt and Wilson — will launch an introductory season lasting from March 7 to June 7 before competing in a traditional season next winter. (Image via Craig Hudson/TWP)

Coach Michael Sprague was happy to have a girl join his squad this winter, but the school's administration told him it was not allowed. And one reason why was because people believed a girl on the wrestling team could hurt St. John's ability to recruit "alpha males." (Image via Greg Flume/TWP)

“I remember thinking when I was in the pinning position — ‘no way I’m actually doing this.” Zemen Sium became the first D.C. champ in Washington Latin school history and completed an undefeated season. Gonzaga took the team title in Coach Milton Yates' 20th and final season at the helm.
